Champions of LIHEAP is an initiative from the Campaign for Home Energy Assistance to raise up the individuals who are active supporters and defenders of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. From out in the field to offices on The Hill, LIHEAP Champions are men and women from both sides of the political aisle.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro: Connecticut’s Third Congressional District
Congresswoman DeLauro serves in the Democratic leadership as Co-Chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and she is the Ranking Member on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
Below are her comments in support of LIHEAP and its impact on her local Connecticut residents. Thank you to Rep. DeLauro for her commitment and advocacy on behalf of LIHEAP and the households it serves.
“...the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) [is] a critical social safety net program that helps some of our most vulnerable citizens keep warm in the winter. In 2016 alone, this program helped nearly 110,000 households across Connecticut. Eliminating this lifeline for individuals and families who need a helping hand is beyond cruel, and I refuse to let it happen. We have a moral obligation to support programs like LIHEAP to ensure our citizens do not die in their homes because they cannot afford energy.”
